Basically, the EMC finding extends the PIP benefit to Florida insured from $2,500 to $10,000 and thus that is the significance of an EMC being found. In 2012, the legislature created a law in which Florida PIP benefits for medical would be $2,500 instead of $10,000, unless someone was found to have an emergency medical condition (EMC). But what type of doctor could find an EMC? Medical doctors could find an EMC as could other medical providers BUT NOT CHIROPRACTORS. Still, many people continue to treat with chiropractors but this forces the chiropractors to send their car accident patients to medical doctors (or one of the other medical providers enumerated in the statute) for a finding of whether there was an EMC.
